The TJX Companies has elected Craig A. Pintoff to its board of directors, effective immediately, the off-price retailer said on Thursday.
Pintoff is executive vice president and chief administrative officer at United Rentals, the equipment rental group, where he oversees human resources, legal, safety and environmental functions, and provides strategic oversight of the company's charitable foundation. He joined United Rentals in 2003 and has held a series of leadership roles there.
TJX cited his experience in human capital and organisational management, risk and compliance, international operations, information technology and strategic planning.
Carol Meyrowitz, executive chairman of the board, said Pintoff brings "deep experience in human capital management, talent development, and organizational leadership, along with strong expertise in risk oversight, regulatory compliance, international operations, and corporate governance", adding that his "broad management experience and strategic perspective will bring valued insight to the TJX Board".
The appointment follows a year in which TJX passed a revenue milestone. The company reported annual sales above 60 billion dollars for fiscal 2026, ended 31 January, with comparable sales up 5 percent and every division delivering comp growth of 4 percent or better. Fourth-quarter net sales reached 17.7 billion dollars, up 9 percent, and adjusted diluted earnings per share for the year came in at 4.73 dollars, an 11 percent increase. The board raised the quarterly dividend 13 percent and set a buyback of 2.5 to 2.75 billion dollars for the current year.
TJX operates more than 5,200 stores across ten countries, trading as TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Homesense and Sierra in the US, Winners, HomeSense and Marshalls in Canada, TK Maxx and Homesense in Europe, and TK Maxx in Australia. It employed roughly 249,000 people at its most recent reported year end.
The board is chaired by Meyrowitz, who was chief executive from 2007 to 2016 and has been executive chairman since. Ernie Herrman has been chief executive and president since 2016 and a director since 2015. Both are classed as non-independent directors as executive officers of the company.
