Ecco CEO Thomas Gøgsig steps down
Danish footwear company Ecco is losing its chief executive officer (CEO). Thomas Gøgsig has stepped down after almost two years at the helm and will leave the company.
The Board of Directors has decided to recruit an external CEO, Ecco announced on Tuesday. Together with the other members of the Management Board, the new CEO is to lead what the company described as the “necessary long-term transformation”. The Board expects the position to be filled during 2027.
Until then, the current Management Board will continue to run the business. It consists of chief financial officer Marco Bossen, chief product officer Adam Meek and chief commercial officer Neal Taylor. Meek and Taylor only joined the leadership team in August.
“The Board of Directors would like to extend sincere thanks to Thomas Gøgsig for his significant contribution, personal commitment, and dedication to ECCO over the past 14 years - most recently as CEO,” the statement read. Ecco declined to comment further when contacted by FashionUnited.
Gøgsig is the third generation of his family to work for Ecco. He joined the company in 2012 and has been a member of the Management Board since 2021. He took over as head of the company from Panos Mytaros at the end of 2024, who had also left without a stated reason.
The change in leadership comes at a difficult time for the company. In 2024, Ecco posted a net loss of 37.6 million euros on revenue of 1.49 billion euros. Last year, revenue fell to around 1.4 billion euros, while the loss narrowed to 24 million euros, according to Danish news agency Ritzau, citing the annual report.
Founded in Bredebro, Denmark, in 1963, the family-owned company operates in more than 100 markets and employs over 20,000 people worldwide.
