NYFW SS27 preview: A season of debuts, comebacks and a policy shift

New York Fashion Week opens the spring/summer 2027 season from September 10 to 15, with a tightly curated official calendar of roughly 70 runway shows and presentations that emphasizes debuts, high-profile returns, and a fur-free policy now in full effect.

The Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) has consolidated the official schedule around designers with clear commercial or editorial standing, resulting in a more disciplined but still star-studded week. Alongside legacy houses like Calvin Klein, Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors and Tory Burch, the SS27 lineup also spotlights a new guard — Khaite, Diotima, LaQuan Smith, Collina Strada, Proenza Schouler, Ulla Johnson, Altuzarra and Prabal Gurung.

The season comes with two structural shifts: the CFDA’s fur‑free policy is now mandatory for all brands on the official schedule, and Friday’s programming respects the 25th anniversary of 9/11 with no shows before 10 a.m.

Designers debuting this season

10 designers will make their NYFW debut, including Conner Ives, who went viral in 2025 with his "Protect the Dolls" T-shirt; Magda Butrym, who presented at Paris Fashion Week last year and worked with H&M on a global collection; and Indian couturier Sabyasachi Mukherjee, who recently released a Byzantine-inspired jewelry collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Surrealist-inspired label Bad Binch TongTong, founded by designer Terrence Zhou, as well as Jamie Haller, Milamore Benjamin Seidler, Grey’s by Emily Grey, High Sport by Alissa Zachary, Hikari no Yami by Jakarie Whitaker, Max Esmail, Patrick Taylor and Zaldy also make their first official‑schedule appearances across runway and presentation formats.

Milestones and designer comebacks

Beyond debuts, SS27 features milestones, comebacks and anniversaries. Diane von Furstenberg will return to the NYFW runway with Henry Zankov’s debut collection, marking the house’s first official show in nearly a decade. Tommy Hilfiger is rejoining the official calendar after several seasons of standalone spectacles. Monse, the label created by Oscar de la Renta’s former creative directors Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, is making a return after a brief hiatus. On Wednesday, before the official calendar kicks off, Coach will celebrate 85 years with a special show.

Cultural moments

Fashion Week’s gravity extends beyond the runway, with public exhibitions and auctions turning midtown into a fashion‑culture hub. The Devil Wears Prada 2 at Christie’s (September 8–13, Rockefeller Center) will showcase costumes and accessories from the sequel, alongside an online charity auction (September 1–15) benefiting the Committee to Protect Journalists and the CFDA. Bill Blass: American Elegance at Christie’s (September 8–13) will highlight the mid‑century American sportswear legend, bookending pop‑culture fantasy with real‑world design history. And the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund presence will exhibit the seven CVFF finalists show this season, with three making official‑schedule debuts, reinforcing the Fund’s role as a pipeline for the next tier of American brands.

Fur-free

Beginning with this season, the CFDA no longer permits animal fur in collections on the official NYFW Schedule. Farmed or trapped fur from animals killed specifically for their pelts, including mink, fox, rabbit, karakul lamb, chinchilla, coyote, and raccoon dog, is not allowed, with an exemption only for fur obtained by Indigenous communities through traditional subsistence hunting practices. The decision was made in collaboration with Humane World for Animals and Collective Fashion Justice, and makes New York the second major fashion week to end its promotion of animal hides after London did so in 2023.
