​Montblanc to launch debut smartwatch collection exclusively on Mr Porter

London - Montblanc has selected Mr Porter, the leading online platform for men, as its exclusive partner for the launch of its debut smartwatch the Montblanc Summit Collection.

Developed together in partnership with Google, the Montblanc Summit Collection is set to debut exclusively on Mr Porter in May for two weeks before launching across all Montblanc stores internationally. The Montblanc smartwatch is said to be the first high-end smartwatch to bring together a classical look with "a digital interpretation of fine watchmaking." In addition, the smartwatch is also the first include a slightly curved sapphire glass covering.

"We are delighted to be the exclusive global launch partner of the Montblanc Summit, a pioneering timepiece that is sure to disrupt and take the evolving smartwatch industry by storm," said Toby Bateman, Managing Director, at Mr Porter in a statement. "This partnership sees Montblanc’s luxury collections on Mr Porter extend from writing instruments, leather goods and accessories, into our growing Fine Watch category - providing our customers with a unique blend of traditional craftsmanship and digital innovation."

The Montblanc Summit Collection runs on the new Android Wear 2.0 operating system and comes with preinstalled apps such as Google Play, Uber and Runtastic. Key features include a full round touch-screen display, heart-rate monitor, barometer and a 4GB flash storage which can be used to sync and play music using wi-fi or bluetooth. The smartwatch is set to launch on Mr Porter in 7 different variations, including numerous stainless steel finishes and a selection of sporty and classic straps in rubber and leather, all housed in a 46 mm case.

The Montblanc smartwatch exclusive collection launch on Mr Porter builds on Yoox Net-a-Porter Group push into high-end luxury. It follows on from the debut of fine jewellery brand Buccellati on Net-a-Porter earlier this week, which marked the first time the Italian jeweller offers its goods online at a luxury retailer.
