Ray-Ban expands Meta collection with audio-only glasses
Ray-Ban is expanding its collaboration with Meta with the launch of the Ray-Ban Meta Audio. This marks the eyewear brand's first audio-only AI glasses, enabling users to listen to music and podcasts, make phone calls and use Meta AI, according to a press release.
The Ray-Ban Meta Audio weighs 43 grams and has a battery life of up to 12 hours. The glasses feature open-ear audio, which allows users to listen to audio without wearing earbuds. The Meta Audio will be introduced in two models: the Clubmaster and Burbank.
The launch follows a recent warning from the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP) regarding camera glasses. The regulator highlighted that filming or photographing identifiable individuals is not permitted without consent. It also noted that AI functions processing camera images and ambient sound could have privacy implications. The Ray-Ban Meta Audio differs from existing Meta glasses as this model does not include a camera.
The Ray-Ban Meta Audio is available from 349 euros (397.8 dollars). The glasses will be sold through Ray-Ban stores; the official Ray-Ban website; selected retail and e-commerce channels of EssilorLuxottica; EssilorLuxottica's wholesale network; and Meta.com. Availability and launch timing may vary by market.
Alongside the product range expansion, Ray-Ban Meta will also be rolled out in South Africa, Portugal, Poland, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines and New Zealand.
