Ralph Lauren blends styles ahead of New York Fashion Week
New York – From a brocade jacket paired with ripped jeans to a sequined flapper dress over flowing trousers, Ralph Lauren presented a spring/summer 2027 collection “reinterpreting historical references” ahead of New York Fashion Week on Wednesday.
Tailored trousers were worn with a leather jacket, a boater hat and ballet flats, watched by French model Laetitia Casta and American actress Viola Davis.
A striped shirt was enhanced by a sequined plastron, while flowing trousers were paired with a tailcoat. True to the brand's aesthetic, navy blue and white dominated the palette, with touches of gold, beige and dusty pink. This first show, on the eve of the official opening of New York Fashion Week, was set to be followed in the evening by that of another American heavyweight, Coach.
In a slowing luxury market, the two brands are thriving. They cultivate a more accessible image and recorded double-digit revenue growth for the quarter ending late June 2026.
Ralph Lauren’s CEO Patrice Louvet champions an “inclusive” approach to luxury, with products ranging from 320,000-dollar watches to 12-dollar socks. The company saw its sales increase by 14 percent to 1.96 billion dollars.
Coach posted a 15 percent increase to 1.64 billion dollars, driven in particular by the success of its handbags with a younger clientele.
New York Fashion Week has a packed schedule on Thursday. It features Henry Zankov's debut at Diane von Furstenberg, shows from Proenza Schouler and Christian Siriano, as well as Tory Burch and, notably, Tommy Hilfiger.
The iconic American fashion brand made a splash in early September with an advertising campaign fronted by Travis Kelce, the famous American football player and husband of pop star Taylor Swift.
The line-up of some 70 shows and presentations also includes Michael Kors and Calvin Klein on Friday, Carolina Herrera on Monday, and Thom Browne closing the event on Tuesday.
Also of note, starting from this edition, is the ban on animal fur in collections on the official New York schedule.
