Primark joins Denim Deal to accelerate circularity

Fashion retailer Primark has joined the Denim Deal, an international collaborative initiative that unites fashion brands, manufacturers, suppliers and recyclers. The multi-stakeholder platform aims to scale the use of post-consumer recycled cotton across the denim sector and advance circular production models through cross-industry innovation.
Through its membership, the Dublin-based value retailer will collaborate with supply chain partners to share technical insights and address existing barriers in processing post-consumer denim fibres. The partnership provides access to sourcing guidance, industry expertise and joint research and development initiatives focused on mechanical and chemical recycling infrastructure.
Expansion of circular design standards across denim portfolio
The move supports the retailer’s wider circularity agenda, which seeks to integrate a higher proportion of recycled content into its collections. Earlier this year, Primark introduced its debut capsule line produced with reclaimed denim, featuring five garments composed of a minimum of 20 percent recycled denim derived from discarded textiles.
To improve post-consumer end-of-life recovery, the five-piece range was engineered without conventional elastane stretch blends or extraneous metallic hardware, such as traditional rivets.
Alongside material developments, the retailer is scaling circular design guidelines under its updated Circular Product Standard 2.0 framework, which evaluates garment durability, raw materials and recyclability. During the 2024/25 financial year, 8 percent of denim garments sold by the retailer adhered to these circular-by-design standards.
Membership in the Denim Deal will inform future product cycles as the business works to integrate higher volumes of post-consumer recycled cotton across its global denim inventory.
