Australia’s Peter Alexander closes UK stores

Australian fashion brand Peter Alexander has announced the closure of its stores in the UK in response to the “continued negative outlook” of the region and “sustained difficult trading conditions”.

The news was confirmed by its parent company Premier Retail, which said the brand’s three existing bricks-and-mortar stores in Bluewater, Stratford and White City would shutter. Peter Alexander will continue to operate in the region through an online presence, while future wholesale partnerships may be explored at a later stage.

In a statement, Premier chairman Solomon Lew said: “Our entry to the UK market was phased to allow us to test market response. Premier has strict store profitability and return hurdles and we allocate capital prudently on behalf of our shareholders.

“We have decided to channel our growth capital for Peter Alexander into our Australia and New Zealand markets, online and potentially capital-light wholesale which we continue to explore with global partners.”

Closer to home, Premier confirmed plans to open at least five new Peter Alexander stores across Australia and New Zealand in the first half of 2027, including a larger flagship store in Sydney expected in October 2026.

The announcement comes as Premier reported a 2 percent decline in sales for the FY26 period, amounting to 795.5 million Australian dollars. The company also lowered its underlying EBIT guidance, narrowing its forecast from 183 million dollars to 176 million dollars.
