Castore reportedly in talks with Anta and Li-Ning over potential deal

British sportswear brand Castore is reportedly in discussions with Chinese sportswear groups Anta and Li-Ning over a potential deal, as investors seek to exit the business.

According to the Financial Times, the Manchester-based company has held further talks with US footwear brands as it mulls options for its next phase of growth. No agreement has been reached, with a transaction potentially involving a majority or minority stake sale or a strategic partnership.

Castore has appointed JPMorgan to advise on its options, with founders Tom and Phil Beahon understood to want to remain involved in the business following a deal.

Castore was valued at around 950 million pounds in a 2023 funding round, with investors including tennis player Sir Andy Murray, Ineos and the Issa brothers. Speculation over a potential sale started circulating in September, after reports suggested the company had received unsolicited takeover approaches.

Alongside building up partnerships with global sporting organisations, including Englang Cricket and Red Bull Racing, Castore has expanded its portfolio by snapping up stakes in other British heritage brands, including Belstaff and Grenson, which it took a controlling stake in earlier this year.

Castore’s parent company, J.Carter Sporting Club, reported revenue of 334.6 million pounds for the 18 months to August 2025, alongside a pre-tax loss of around 40.8 million pounds. The business secured 90 million pounds in debt funding in May to support its expansion.
