Fashion

As the fashion industry prepares for the start of the Fall/Winter 2016-17 womenswear runway shows in February, discover an inspiring selection of the key print and pattern trends predicted to influence collections this season. Covering everything from Contemporary and Young Fashion to Checks & Stripes and Knit Patterns, last year the Trendstop print experts deployed their forward-looking analysis to forecast the most directional and commercially relevant print directions set to emerge in F/W16-17 and over the next few weeks, we will be able to see how these trends manifest on the catwalk in the fashion capitals of New York, London, Milan and Paris. This week, see how a textural focus has been predicted for Fall 2016, as designers introduce a new dimension to patterning with a play on material effects and tactile surfaces.

Interior Flowers

A key Contemporary Print for fall, we see feminine aesthetics created with a nod to interior design, characterised by elegant and feminine florals. Inspired by tactile upholstery or wallpapered surfaces, vintage William Morris-style blooms flourish on apparel, updated with colour pop motifs or mishmash patterns.

City Surfaces

Another Contemporary print, this trend direction is influenced by textures found in the heart of the city, updating Fall/Winter womenswear with mottled surface effects. Abstract patterning is reminiscent of urban materials like concrete, tarmac and metal, as tactile fabrics are set off by subdued monochrome tones.

Winter Stripes

Over in Checks & Stripes, a striking print story emerges with a focus on multi-stripe patterning. Assorted stripe widths add interest to surfaces, as mixes of colours enhance standout designs. Layered prints can also be used for a modern twist. To highlight the wintry mood, thick, cosy woollens and knits set off striped surfaces.
