Chanel has a new gentleman at the helm of their European market. Berndt Hauptkorn a former Uniqlo executive, has been named president of Chanel Europe. Hauptkorn succeeds Didier Sabas who is retiring according to Chanel.

Hauptkorn has been CEO of Uniqlo Europe since 2012, in addition to being the Senior Vice President and Global Officer for Uniqlo's parent company Fast Retailing Co. Ltd. He was previously CEO of Swiss luxury brand Bally from 2009 to 2011, and prior to that he was CEO of Vienna-based holding company Labelux. Under Hauptkorn's leadership Labelux’s portfolio grew to include Solange Azagury-Partridge, Derek Lam, and Zagliani.

Hauptkorn was not immediately available for comment. In the face of a tough market for luxury goods Europe, Hauptkorn might have his work cut out for him, but, the House of Chanel has weathered the storm of many events throughout European history from WWII to the great recession. His leadership is sure to continue the iconic luxury label's success even in tough economic times.
